Coffee For Our Troops is a project we partner alongside with The Maine Citadel Club and The Brunswick Church of Christ, as well as other local friends, business, and churches in order to send coffee, snacks, baked goods, letters, and other requested items to members of the Armed Forces deployed to the Middle East.
This project started when Rick and Donna Porter, members of The Maine Citadel Club, were asked by a former freshman Citadel cadet, then deployed in Afghanistan, if folks from home could send coffee - specifically K-cups and other items for the unit. When Rick and Donna reached out to us, we did not have K-cups, but did offer other coffee donations, mostly in the form of frac packs. Through their inquiry, they also learned that one of our owners is a West Point Graduate and army veteran - someone who was willing to help grow this project in an effort to support for our troops.
In this first year, they were able to ship 10 boxes to 4 units - all of which returned home in early 2014. In 2019, they were able to send 809 boxes to over 70 Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine units in Afghanistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, United Arab Emirates.
The Brunswick Church of Christ has served as a generous host and doner to our program since the inception in 2013. All funds received go directly to shipping care packages to our troops - by far the most expensive cost of this project.
The simplest way to contribute is through monetary donation - made payable to the Brunswick Church of Christ with Coffee For Our Troops in the memo line, mailed to 1 Jordan Ave, Brunswick ME 04011. Donations made through the church may be tax deductible. Other accepted forms of donations include non-perishable items, baked homemade goods, and letters.
In general, the cost to ship a box is $65, depending on the contents. Since the start of the program, over 3,000 boxes have been sent to deployed units.
