Chaff is the green dried skin on the coffee bean when picked. During the roasting process, hot temperatures cause the chaff to peel off and then it is blown out of the roasting chamber into holding buckets, becoming a waste product.
We have teamed with with local composting company We Compost It! 8-10 36 gallon bins that are picked up on a weekly basis and then are recycled into their organic compost products.
As a member of B Corp, we are pleased to say that from March 2019 we have diverted more than 60,000 lbs of chaff from the waste stream, contributing to our mission of roasting epic coffee in sustainable ways!
